HBO’s Max has several big new shows this year, including The Penguin (a Batman spin-off) and Dune: Prophecy, and there’s a strong Black Friday deal if you want to watch them. New and returning subscribers can get the ad-supported Max plan for $2.99 per month for six months. Max counts “returning” subscribers as those whose subscription has expired or who previously cancelled.
You can sign up on the Max website, or through the Apple App Store, Google Play, and on Amazon and Roku devices. The discounted price applies to the ad-supported tier, which normally costs $9.99 per month, so this works out to about a 70% monthly saving. After six months the subscription will revert to the regular price.
The offer runs until Cyber Monday (December 2, 2024). There’s no matching discount for the ad-free plan, which starts at $16.99 per month.
This isn’t the lowest price Max has ever offered—previous promotions have dropped the cost to $1.99 per month for three months—but this year’s deal gives a longer, six-month discount, making it a strong value.
Max’s catalog includes big recent films like Dune: Part Two, franchises such as the Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings movies, and hit series including The Last of Us, Succession, and House of the Dragon. Note that the ad-supported plan limits streaming to 1080p and does not include offline downloads.
