iOS 27.2 Enhances Siri and Introduces New FaceTime Features
Apple's iOS 27.2 update brings significant improvements to Siri, including memory recall and dual camera support for FaceTime video calls.
Apple has released the iOS 27.2 update, marking a significant step forward for its iOS 27 platform. This update introduces exciting enhancements, notably for Siri, and many other features that improve user experience across devices.
Siri Gets Smarter
One of the standout features of iOS 27.2 is the improved functionality of Siri AI. With this update, Siri can now remember and recall details from past conversations, making interactions more fluid and natural.
This means users can ask Siri about previous discussions and it will respond accordingly, creating a more personalized experience. Additionally, Siri has expanded its ability to tap into various sources, such as voicemails, browsing history in Safari, and images shared in messages. Users even have the option to choose which apps Siri can access for a tailored experience.
Innovative FaceTime Features
Alongside the enhancements to Siri, FaceTime also receives exciting updates. Users can now utilize both front and rear cameras simultaneously during a call. This feature is particularly beneficial for group calls, allowing participants on the other end to see both the speaker and the environment.
For those with hearing difficulties, iOS 27.2 introduces the option to incorporate a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner into video calls, enhancing accessibility.
Multiview Expansion for Streamlined Viewing
The update features a function known as Multiview Expansion, which allows users to stream up to four sports events at once on their devices. This applies to popular events like Major League Soccer matches and Formula 1 races in the United States, providing various viewing options, including driver perspective and course maps. Note that an Apple TV subscription is necessary to access this feature.
Improved Apps and Features
The iMessage app sees enhancements as well, offering contextual suggestions for actions such as adding calendar events or setting reminders based on the conversation content.
Similarly, the Podcasts app has been upgraded to feature a new layout in the Up Next section, displaying new episodes and in-progress shows in a more organized manner.
For shared photo albums, users can now update captions and comments directly within the album, avoid duplicate entries, and receive notifications before an album expires, facilitating smoother collaboration.
iPhone Duo Updates
Specific improvements for the iPhone Duo include support for the USB-C version of the Apple Pencil, allowing users to draw or annotate directly in apps like Notes. Additionally, the new Edge Light feature illuminates users’ faces during video calls in low-light conditions, enhancing visibility.
What’s Not Included?
As the first major update of the iOS 27 series, 27.2 follows a minor patch released in late September that addressed certain bugs, including issues with the iPhone 18 Pro's Face ID. Notably, the anticipated updates to the Health app are still forthcoming, expected with the future iOS 27.3 expected in December.
Users can also find this update available for a range of other Apple devices, including iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, Apple TVs, Vision Pros, and HomePods.
