New Android 17 Feature: Easy Access with App Bubbles

Android 17 introduces a feature allowing users to bubble apps for quick access, currently available on Pixel devices.

What Are App Bubbles?

Android has taken a step further in enhancing user experience with the introduction of app bubbles in its latest update, Android 17. This innovative feature allows users to keep their favorite applications floating on their screens for instant access.

Originally, the bubble function was limited to text conversations, making them easily accessible. Now, with app bubbles, users can create a floating icon for several apps, enabling seamless multitasking.

How App Bubbles Work

Once activated, the app you choose will appear in a compact bubble that remains on top of all other applications. This means you can quickly access critical apps without having to navigate back to your home screen or app drawer.

Currently, Android 17’s app bubble feature is exclusive to Google Pixel devices, but there are plans to roll it out to a broader range of smartphones eventually. Users can select up to five apps to bubble, streamlining workflow and boosting productivity.

Enabling App Bubbles on Your Pixel

To start using app bubbles on a Google Pixel, follow these simple steps:

  1. Access Your Apps: Navigate to your app drawer or home screen to find the application you want to bubble.
  2. Long Press the App Icon: Hold down on the app until a menu pops up with several options.
  3. Select the Bubble Option: From the menu, tap on 'Bubble' to initiate the floating icon.
  4. Position the Bubble: The app will resize into an icon that can be moved along the left or right side of the screen. However, note that it won't go anywhere else on the screen. Multiple apps can be bubbled simultaneously, but they will move together.

Samsung Galaxy Users

If you own a Samsung Galaxy device, you won’t miss out on similar functionality. Samsung provides its ‘Smart Pop-Up View’ feature, allowing users to respond to notifications from apps without exiting the current app you're using.

Here’s how to enable the Smart Pop-Up View:

  1. Open Settings: Go to your settings application and tap on 'Notification Settings.'
  2. Advanced Settings: Look for 'Advanced settings' and select 'Floating Notifications.' Then choose 'Smart Pop-Up View.'
  3. Choose Your Apps: Select which apps you'd like to utilize in this view for easier management of notifications.

Conclusion

With the rollout of app bubbles in Android 17, multitasking becomes even more user-friendly, especially for Pixel users. Although it currently remains a unique feature for Google devices, other manufacturers like Samsung have similar offerings that enhance app accessibility. Stay tuned for its eventual availability across more Android devices!
