Otter Enhances AI Assistant with New Work Mode for Meetings
Otter's latest Work mode boosts its AI Chat assistant capabilities, streamlining meeting tasks and workflows.
Otter has recently launched a new feature called Work mode within its AI Chat assistant. This enhancement aims to streamline tasks related to meetings, reflecting a significant shift in how meeting tools are utilized.
Expanding Tasks Beyond Transcriptions
This addition is part of Otter's broader strategy to evolve from basic meeting transcriptions to comprehensive workflow automation. The Work mode was announced on Tuesday and is designed to operate alongside the existing Chat feature found in the AI Chat prompt box.
While the Chat function allows users to ask questions and generate content, the Work interface focuses on executing more complex, multi-step actions. This makes it comparable to other AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT, who also differentiate between basic chat and advanced capabilities.
Pre-Meeting and Post-Meeting Automation
Prior to meetings, users can leverage the Work mode to create briefing documents based on insights collected from prior conversations, as well as information from integrated applications. After a meeting concludes, Otter’s AI can assist in various follow-up activities. These include drafting emails, generating documents in multiple formats such as Word and Notion, creating PDFs, and even updating records in Salesforce.
Notably, the AI requires human approval before completing these tasks, ensuring accuracy and relevance in the automation process.
Streamlined User Experience
Work mode is currently available to all paying Otter users with no restrictions on usage, which sets it apart from the Chat mode that has a query limit based on subscription plans. Otter plans to phase out the Express and Advanced options from the AI Chat interface to simplify navigation for users.
Irwin Lazar, a principal analyst at Metrigy, has commented on the industry trend toward actionable meeting notes that draw on contextual data both from meetings and other integrated platforms. According to a study, an impressive 91% of business users express a desire for meeting note-takers to access contextual information that influences decision-making during meetings.
Competitive Landscape and Future Features
Similar features are emerging across various platforms, such as Microsoft Teams and Cisco’s Webex, as they also incorporate intelligent functionalities to enhance productivity. As Otter continues to develop its offerings, including the Live Assist feature, it aims to remain competitive in the evolving market.
Live Assist, which has recently rolled out to enterprise customers, will soon be available to all paid Otter accounts. This feature provides real-time guidance during calls, including suggestions for questions and tracking of meeting objectives.
Despite the potential competition from other vendors, experts like Thomas Randall from Infotech note that these functionalities could significantly enhance the workflows of existing users, providing them with valuable tools to increase productivity.
“As various software vendors integrate AI features into their platforms, Otter’s new capabilities will assist current users, allowing for improved pre-existing workflows,” said Randall.
