Semgrep Earns Recognition in Forrester's Security Tools Evaluation

Semgrep shines in the latest Forrester Wave report, highlighting its effectiveness in AI-enhanced software security.

Semgrep, a leader in code security tools, has been featured in Forrester's recent analysis titled "The Forrester Wave™: Agentic Development Security Tools, Q4 2026.” This report underscores the imperative for organizations to adapt their security protocols in light of AI-driven software development.

Importance of Validating AI-Generated Code

The surge in AI-assisted development has significantly amplified the volume of code produced, with some users noting up to a 20-fold increase in vulnerabilities. Consequently, the task of managing these vulnerabilities becomes increasingly difficult.

According to Forrester's evaluation, Semgrep excels at utilizing AI for the triage of vulnerabilities by leveraging organizational context and previously made decisions. This capability enables teams to streamline their reviews, ensuring that vulnerabilities are less likely to be re-evaluated across multiple repositories. At a steady pace, users endorse Autotriage findings 96% of the time, which aids in effectively reducing their backlog by approximately 60% from the outset.

Comprehensive Flaw Detection

Forrester's report emphasizes Semgrep’s unique method of detecting flaws within AI applications. By merging rules-based detection with model-based insights, Semgrep addresses various vulnerabilities like prompt injection and sensitive information leakage.

Additionally, Semgrep offers specialized rulesets that identify harmful agent behaviors, monitor LLM usage, and ensure compliance with best practices across a variety of AI tools like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Claude Code. Its static analysis capabilities also tackle several vulnerabilities listed in the OWASP Top 10 specific to LLM Applications.

Enhancing Developer Experience

Forrester noted that customers highlight Semgrep’s adaptable and developer-friendly nature, which aligns perfectly with its day-to-day functionality. Development teams can craft tailored rules relevant to their projects, examine issues within pull requests, and review AI-generated fixes rather than starting from scratch. On average, the Autofix feature has been reported to save about 30 minutes for each identified issue.

Designed for the Future of Development

As coding agents continue to generate substantial amounts of code, the pace of security measures must also accelerate. This year, Semgrep has introduced numerous enhancements to respond to this challenge. Notably, Semgrep Multimodal, released in March, integrates AI reasoning with rule-based analyses, effectively identifying issues like IDOR (Insecure Direct Object Reference) and broken access controls that may escape detection when approached separately.

In June, Semgrep launched Semgrep Guardian, which proactively scans and corrects AI-generated code as it is created. Following this, Semgrep Agentic Workflows were introduced in July, providing automated and comprehensive vulnerability searches on a large scale. September brought the implementation of malware detection and response automation, ensuring teams can remain vigilant against harmful packages in their dependency lists.

Acknowledgment and Moving Forward

This recognition from Forrester represents the valuable feedback from Semgrep’s users and community. We extend our gratitude to all who contribute to the development of our platform.
