Smplify Introduces AI Management with a Human Touch

Smplify aims to enhance device management by integrating humane oversight with AI technologies, ensuring controls are in place as automation increases.

Empowering Device Management with AI

As the demand for robust Apple device management solutions soars, Smplify has emerged with a unique approach that emphasizes the need for human oversight in an increasingly automated landscape. The company recently secured $1 million in pre-seed funding, indicating a strong interest in its innovative offerings.

Meeting the Challenges of AI Integration

Ben Greiner, co-founder and COO of Smplify, emphasizes that while automation through AI is rapidly becoming commonplace, the challenge lies in ensuring these agents operate under strict governance. With automation evolving to perform tasks rather than merely suggesting them, there is a pressing need for systems that can audit AI actions effectively.

“Enterprises that thrive will be those that can regulate what agents are permitted to execute, as well as track their activities,” Greiner explained. This perspective aligns with findings from OneTrust’s 2026 AI-ready governance report, which revealed that only 47% of organizations have the necessary governance measures in place despite 87% encouraging AI agent use.

Who Monitors AI Actions?

The rapid actions of AI agents pose significant questions about oversight. According to Greiner, the risk of these agents executing changes without adequate approval is a serious concern, potentially leading to widespread issues before they are detected.

Companies such as Jamf and Fleet are already grappling with these risks. Jamf, for instance, launched an AI Governance suite earlier, focusing on visibility and control, further highlighting the industry’s urgent need to adapt to AI's presence.

Establishing Safe Boundaries

Smplify aims to incorporate governance directly into the management workflow. Greiner describes this as a “last-mile control plane,” serving as the crucial checkpoint between an AI agent's decisions and their implementation on devices. By requiring human approval for significant actions, the platform mimics traditional IT oversight while leveraging the speed of automation.

The potential dangers of unmanaged AI extend beyond data breaches; they include issues of accountability. Misguided AI instructions could result in damaging changes, and the challenge of recovery after incidents can be notably steep.

A Comprehensive Solution for Device Management

Smplify’s platform is designed to manage not only standard device operations but also AI interactions, integrating seamlessly with existing protocols and systems, including Apple’s Declarative Device Management (DDM). By keeping devices aligned with specified intents, Smplify alerts IT teams to any discrepancies while also facilitating remediation through automated or admin-approved actions.

Utilizing principles from GitOps, Smplify offers versioned intent and comprehensive logs, enhancing accountability within device management processes.

Looking Ahead: The Future of AI Governance

Greiner believes that future AI management tools will likely incorporate features similar to those found in Apple’s DDM, allowing IT to set clear operational boundaries for AI. Such regulatory frameworks are essential as businesses seek to harness AI while maintaining control over its use.

Additionally, because Smplify operates as an MDM platform with an API-first approach, it enables software companies to embed device management capabilities into their products, broadening the potential applications of its technology.

As AI continues to permeate enterprise environments, Smplify’s emphasis on human oversight blended with automation may well define the next wave of device management solutions.
