Sonos Enhancements: New Features Improve User Experience

Sonos rolls out new app features aimed at easing user frustrations and enhancing audio control.

As the anticipation grows for Sonos' AI-enhanced voice assistant expected in Fall 2026, the company is introducing valuable updates to its app, aiming to enhance user experience.

Introducing System Health

One of the standout updates is the addition of System Health, which offers users a streamlined overview of their audio systems. Currently available only on iOS, this new feature can help troubleshoot issues for users with multiple speakers or mixed system types.

The System Health section reveals important information such as network status, the number of connected speakers, and room configurations. It can also identify potential problems like the Double Network Address issue, which often occurs when new routers are added to an existing setup.

Understanding Your System

With System Health, upon accessing your system settings, you will see a list of all attached speakers, each one clearly marked. Unconnected devices will display a red “Not connected” badge, while powered off speakers will have a black badge.

Moreover, you can delve into detailed connection information, including Wi-Fi strength, serial numbers, and even software versions. This organized data makes troubleshooting easier and offers a holistic view of your home audio setup.

New Controls in the App

Aside from the new System Health page, Sonos is also enhancing user control through additional features in the app. Volume control is crucial for many users, and Sonos has introduced volume presets, allowing you to set the playback volume in specific rooms. While this feature is still rolling out, it promises to make managing sound levels much simpler.

Streamlined Listening Experience

The app's miniplayer has received attention with a new swipe to skip feature, making navigation between tracks much quicker. Users can now swipe left to skip to the next track, mirroring functionalities found in popular music apps such as Apple Music and Spotify.

However, it's important to note that as of now, swiping to replay a track is not supported, which may be a future improvement.

Updating the Ace Ultra

The Ace Ultra headphones have also seen an upgrade with a firmware update that includes Vocal Guidance, providing spoken alerts on battery status and the current audio mode.

As Sonos prepares for the introduction of its AI voice assistant, the enhancements to both the app and the headphones seem to be setting the stage for a more integrated user experience.

What’s Next for Sonos?

With these recent improvements, it’s clear that Sonos is committed to refining its user interfaces and features. Users can look forward to the ongoing enhancements and expanded capabilities that the forthcoming AI assistant will bring. Whether for casual listening or complex audio setups, these updates are designed to enrich the Sonos experience.
